It’s entirely possible that the only reason she was pushing for the rape charges was because of the custody dispute. It’s also entirely irrelevant. That’s the point of age of consent and statutory rape laws - the underage person is not considered able to consent, no matter what they think.

With the lack of new FA content before now, I was mostly gone and never got to comment on the death of the legendary Betty White. Although the following has now been public knowledge for a few days, I thought I'd post this story about Betty telling racists to stick it back when I was 2 years old:

" 'Live with it': Betty White defied racist demands in 1954"

Wanna bet that some of those racist demands came from Alabama?

Fortunately, my state recently put an end to allowing rapists who impregnated their victims to share custody of the baby. It’s disgusting that this practice was allowed to happen in the first place. It’s bad enough that these women were raped, but being forced to have their rapists continue to intrude into their lives and having to share custody with them adds insult to injury.

"What 24- or 25-year-old is going after a 16-year-old (who was actually 14)?!"

I know! Roy Moore.

Oh my fucking god!

She was 14, and even if her motivation for pressing charges is to gain custody of their teenage daughter, he should still be able to be found guilty of rape. The motivation of the victim does not change the facts of the case.

I’m still just as appalled by this case as I was I October when we first heard he got away with it. And the mother’s explanation of events changes nothing except her own culpability in abetting the rape. She’s victim blaming. A child cannot enter into a contract for any other reason, why should she be getting married, even if a pregnancy and child is involved. All this does is perpetuate the acceptance of rape in our society.

The fact is this man raped a 14 year old girl and now has unfettered access to another 14 year old girl and everyone who could intervene is pleased he is not being held accountable.

"On a side note, it was very troubling that WTVY described the “relationship” — which, again, began when the victim was 14 — as a “consensual sexual relationship.” When you’re 14 and the other person is 24, consent in any meaningful sense of the word goes out the window. It was rape.)"

See "shithole states" and "Alabama."

I think that every adult that knew about this and did nothing to protect that child should rot in prison. I know it's comparing apples to oranges, but consider how many black men have been lynched, murdered, for allegedly looking "the wrong way" at a white woman, or for fake rape accusations. But, here we are, hello, Mr. preacher! Thank you for marrying my slutty daughter. The family honor is restored, we are a good, decent Christian family again! Rape? What rape? It's not the preacher's fault that she didn't keep her legs crossed!

When I was 14, I was in Junior High school in the early 80s. We had just completed a sex education lecture 2 years earlier in grade 6. One girl I knew had gotten pregnant that year "by an older man", whom we kids all assumed was a high school boy she was dating. Someone whom she had never mentioned to anyone before, forcing her to drop out of school so she could care for the baby once she was almost due. Like most kids at that school, she came from an Evangelical Christian family.

She was extremely shy, like I was, so we had a friendly connection because we both belonged to the small clique that hung out at the school library and mostly avoided the other kids during recess. Sometimes she would come to school in tears and often would say that her parents hated her. Now that I'm a grownup, I am suspecting that she was being abused by both her parents and whomever she was "dating".

To my knowledge she never returned to high school and probably had to get a GED and a job while caring for her child. I wonder if she was in the same situation as Ash? The school was full of mandatory reporters, but I got the impression that CPS was ever involved because the parents were seen as good Christians.

Lesson learned: Never trust a pastor and/or religious leader no matter who they are.

I wish I could describe this story as unbelievable. But that would be ridiculous.

Never mind about ethical, it's completely against Christian morality – in theory. Honoured more in the breach than the observance perhaps, but doesn't he owe her parents a couple of goats or something?

No prison time. Unsupervised probation. Doesn't have to register as a sex offender. Think a nonreligious person would get that kind of deal?

Christian Persecution in America(tm). What a sick joke.

Of course, Ala fucking Bama where child rape is subsequently excused by child marriage. Thanks, fucking Christian privilege!

The first new FA article in days and now I feel like punching someone. Preferably, several someones (Greathouse, Harrison and even Jett).

Christians. The very same people who claim that gay people would be horrible parents for children.
