It begins with the Catholic Church's fundamentally irrational view of human sexuality. I don't care if priests are gay. I always assumed most of them were, and most of them don't hurt anyone. This effort is more about the sexual hypocrisy of the church than anything remotely moral.

What this article tells me, beyond anything else, is the utterly distorted priorities the Catholic Church has set regarding just WHAT sins they want to investigate and how. It's eminently clear that they are apparently far more interested in going after gay priests, who are likely doing little to no harm, than they are in the pedophiles in their numbers. The intolerable damage those predators have done to children worldwide has been documented more ways than I could count, yet it would seem as though that warrants less of their attention than a priest who desires some intimate company.

Vatican City desperately needs to pull their individual and collective heads out of their asses and recognize that their skewed view of what needs to be corrected in their ranks requires some serious rethinking.

“whose trustees are philanthropists Mark Bauman, John Martin and Tim Reichert,”

“Philanthropist: a person who seeks to promote the welfare of others, especially by the generous donation of money to good causes.”

If they are donating to causes whose purpose is to unwillingly out and harass LGBT people, they are not philanthropists. Philanthropy requires you do good things, promote the welfare of others, not harass and torture people because they don’t fit in your narrow world view.

Don’t lie to pretend you’re trying to protect children when all you’re looking for is adult consensual behaviors.

Of the 2 great evil, corrupt, greedy, misogynistic, authoritarian, dehumanizing organizations that have spread their tentacles from Italy over the rest of civilization, why does only the less pernicious one, the Mafia, have the bad reputation?

It's never been the sex that the RCC had a problem with. It's the consent. They'll happily mount a centuries-long global campaign to cover for the rapists in their midst, but if they discover one among them has been getting a little mutually-desired action on the side (especially if it's gay), they lose their fucking minds. People deciding freely what to do on their own dime, on their own time, with their own bodies and their own lives... that's the real evil, to them. It's no wonder- their whole religion is founded on a case of supernatural rape. It's all "obey god!" and "fear god!" and coercion with promises of eternal torture (when they're not allowed to do the real thing, that is).

It's always, always been about consent- the RCC 𝘩𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘴 consent.

Spying is a catholic tradition, the inquisition never stopped.

If they're tracking all of the gay priests in the country, they must have a Cray supercomputer with absolutely nothing else taking up any of its memory. An old friend of mine worked as a church organist/choir director for a time (between real jobs) and at one point he was pressured to attend some priest/bishop confab. He said he saw more hookups and gay "parties" there than he'd ever seen at any gay bathhouse.

Some good news for a change. And the Catholic Church be damned.

The Catholic church epitomizes the sheer idiocy of the Christian religion, with its magical worshipping of a human miraculously born from a virgin, to its worldwide acceptance and institutionalization with the Pope as its leader. Just think, our "good Catholic" president believes all this nonsense. We are fucked.
