Creationist Kent Hovind will spend 30 days in jail after being found guilty of domestic abuse of his former girlfriend. It’s not his first time in jail. It’s not the first allegation of abuse. It’s also not a very long time behind bars. But it’s a rare instance of justice being served… at least in some capacity.
Hovind isn’t handling it well…
On an unrelated note, Creationist Matt Powell is now dressing like his mentor. Because this is totally not a cult.
Nope. Still not done with this one yet. Apparently, Matt Powell still hasn’t heard the news about Pluto.
The pope is still alive. And sassy as ever.
Remember when the Boy Scouts went bankrupt in part because of thousands of cases of sexual abuse? Well, it turns out they’re dragging religious affiliates down with them.
Words of wisdom: Stop saying people who do bad things are “un-Christian” or the “least Christian” or “not living up to Christian standards.” As Chrissy Stroop points out, we shouldn’t use “Christian” as a synonym for “good.”That’s not how religion works. “Christian” isn’t a synonym for “good,” and the linguistic habit of using it that way reinforces Christian hegemony. We need to kick the habit religiondispatches.org/the-fake-chris…
The GOP delenda est @elvislevel@C_Stroop Evangelicals use Christianity as a club to beat up people they want to hate ("sorry, God wants us to hate you"). They are perhaps the least Christian people on earth, including atheists and Buddhists. A bit unfair to blame American degeneracy on Christianity.
An Italian priest was arrested. For fraud. Because he stole $117,000 from his church. To pay for drugs. Which he used at “lavish gay sex parties.” And now he might be sued for theft. But he wants you to know he can’t be held responsible for this because he was in a “cocaine vortex.” And also he has HIV. Congratulations to all of you for completing your Catholic Bingo card.
Televangelist Jim Bakker and MyPillow MAGA cultist Mike Lindell joined grifting forces this week for a “telethon” to defeat “cancel culture.” Except it wasn’t a telethon and, from what we can tell, the money raised selling $100 Bible quote-pillows was to line their own pockets.
This campaign ad from a Democratic minister trying to unseat MAGA cultist Rep. Madison Cawthorn is devastatingly good. But will it be effective…?
Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin wants you to know she believes in science… but only because she doesn’t understand how science works.
After a steady stream of posts downplaying the severity of COVID and criticizing health restrictions, Denver pastor R. Loren Sandford caught the virus and then ate his words by closing his church to protect others from getting it. It was too little too late: Sandford died in the ICU on Saturday.
I regret to inform you that Gene Kim is at it again.
We’ve heard a lot about anti-vax pastors catching COVID lately, so to keep things fresh, let’s talk about Pastor Robert Jeffress of First Baptist Dallas in Texas who has been a beaming voice of reason among evangelicals. Kind of. He told the Associated Press, “There is no credible religious argument against the vaccines,” citing the fact that several uncontroversial drugs like Tylenol were made using the same process Christians are complaining about when it comes to the COVID vaccine. It’s all or nothing.
Enjoy these very different — yet all too similar — videos.
Campus preachers may seem punchable, but don’t do it! Even if they’re holding a sign that says “Women belong in the kitchen” and tell women passing by to exchange college for “faith, a Bible, and a good cookbook.”
Christian author and evangelist Josh McDowell spoke at the American Association of Christian Counselors World Conference in Orlando, Florida last weekend and didn’t miss the opportunity to trash-talk “Critical Race Theory” and “Social Justice” by blaming Black people for not raising their children to value education.
Now that his racism has been heard beyond the conference walls, McDowell is backpedaling in a statement where he says he’ll “step back” from his ministry to listen… to whom, we don’t know, but it’s a start.
Brooklyn-based product design company MSCHF, the same people who brought us “Jesus Shoes” and, more recently, “Satan Shoes,” dropped their latest sinful gimmick— Chick-fil-A sandwiches served on Sunday for the mere price of $6.66 (and possibly your soul).
One of the biggest megachurches in the world just got the investigative journalism treatment by 60 Minutes Australia and the end result, full of stories of sexual abuse, should horrify anyone not already familiar with Hillsong. Take some time this weekend to watch this:
A private Catholic high school in the suburbs of Chicago hired a well-credentialed lacrosse coach, Amanda Kammes, only to rescind the offer at the last second after she listed her wife as an emergency contact. Because the Catholic Church hates love. But after backlash from students, parents, and alums, they decided to rehire her, presumably because Kammes wasn’t responsible for teaching any faith-related classes… or maybe because they decided too many donations were at stake.
You may have heard the Supreme Court will hear a case to overturn Roe v. Wade on December 1. A handful of atheist organizations have submitted amicus briefs urging the Court not to take that drastic step because it would violate church/state separation and create a kind of conservative Christian supremacy across the country.
Does love matter when you’re getting married? Not to fundamentalist Lori Alexander, a.k.a. The Transformed Wife, who says love is more of a “Hollywood” thing.
On a side note, never get dating advice from her:Fundamentalist dating tips are always entertaining.
The Transformed Wife 🦋 @godlywomanhoodYoung women, when you begin dating a man you’re rather interested in, on one of the first few dates, out of the blue ask him, “When was the last time you looked at porn?” You’ll know by his reaction if he’s a porn addict. You do NOT want to marry a porn addict. It’s devastating.
Finally, congratulations to Holy Family Ministries for getting a kickback from Hooters. May this poster spread widely.
